The opening ceremony of the competition was held in No.1 Lecture Hall. Dr. Liu Zhenying, head of the Chinese Skills Group of BRICS Business Council, chairman of the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS Skills Development International Alliance, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee of the Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition; Zhang Yawei, president of Henan Lifelong Education Association, former deputy secretary of Henan Provincial University Working Committee and former deputy director of Henan Education Department; Zhang Junli, deputy director of Vocational Education and Adult Education Department of Henan Education Department; He Yong, vice chairman of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee of the BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition, executive director of the Beijing Enterprise Research Institute of Education and Technology, Fu Hongsheng, director of the technical committee of the Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition, arbitrator of the Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition, consultant of the Basic Training Center of Tsinghua University; Pan Changchun, head of VR expert group, deputy director of the Joint Research Center of Intelligent Manufacturing Virtual Simulation of Zhejiang University; Xu Yan, secretary of the Party Committee of Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College; nearly 200 instructors from domestic and foreign colleges and universities, as well as the Chinese participating team, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Burundi training teams in China attended the opening ceremony in the first lecture hall. The opening ceremony was presided over by the president of our college, Ma Yuxia.

At the opening ceremony, Party secretary Xu Yan gave a welcome speech to the leaders, referees, instructors and contestants who participated in the opening ceremony on behalf of the college. Xu Yan pointed out that hosting this competition is not only an honor for the school, but also a valuable learning opportunity. Hosting this event coincides with the 70th anniversary of Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College.. During the preparations for this competition, the leaders of the college led the entire faculty and all the students to make orderly and elaborate preparation for both the competition and the 70th anniversary of the college. Xu Yan said that this competition would be a grand event for young students to show their talents, challenge themselves and pursue their dreams. All the contestants can showcase their superb skills, demonstrate their craftsmanship spirit, and create the most perfect works with their ingenuity and dexterity. As the organizer, the college would, under the unified leadership of the Provincial Department of Education and the Organizing Committee of the competition, make every effort to provide considerate and high-quality services for the competition, create a warm competition environment, and make the competition an influential, high-quality and distinctive event.

He pointed out that the Belt and Road Initiative was a major strategic decision made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council in light of the profound changes in the international and domestic situation. With the coming of 2021, people have great expectations for the future development of the VR technology, which has been recognized as an important technology in the 21st century that will hugely affect people's lives. Zhang Yawei said that China's VR industry, which was still in its infancy, needed a large number of high-quality and professional VR practitioners and talents. He stated that further training for talents is needed, care for them, retain them and utilize them effectively . This competition will help to enhance the independent innovation ability of the VR industry and build a team of high-quality skilled talents in the VR industry.

Zhang Junli, deputy director of the Vocational Education and Adult Education Department of Henan Provincial Department of Education, pointed out that the competition was a large-scale international skills competition organized by a Chinese college. She hoped that this competition would help more young people learn about sport skills, understand that skills can help to cultivate talents and serve the country, and make the whole society attach more importance to vocational skills. Since it was first held in 2017, the competition has attracted extensive attention from both at home and abroad, opened up talent selection channel for BRICS countries, improved their talent training capability, and played an important role in serving the advanced manufacturing field, promoting the skills development of BRICS countries and advancing the cooperation of BRICS countries in the second “Golden Decade”. She expressed her hope that this competition would become a splendid and fair skills competition.

He pointed out that the development of the Belt and Road and BRICS Competition is one of the main tasks of the Chinese skill group, the Belt and Road and the BRICS International Alliance for skills development, and it is also the starting point for the implementation of other tasks. Cutting-edge technologies such as intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital skills and future technical skills based on Industry 4.0 will be on display at the competition, which is as an important showcase for the participating talents to display their superb skills and learn from each other. This competition can promote the principle of promote learning through competition by encouraging students to practice their skills more diligently. It can also promote the principle of promote teaching through competition by promoting the training of highly skilled talents and combining talent training and industrial development. Besides, the competition will help to enhance teaching skills and improve education quality in an all-round way, as well as testing teaching quality and the effectiveness of teaching reform.
The Competition will be held from October 14th to 17th. The opening ceremony and vocational ability assessment will be held first, followed by the competition of operation skills and technical defense. The ranking will be determined according to the comprehensive assessment results. The Organizing Committee will invite the head of the expert group to make comments on the competition proposition, the organization of the final process and the results of the competition. The commendation meeting and closing ceremony will be held on 17th October.
